the weather [49/365]

It’s a good thing there’s weather πŸ™‚. There’s always some weather … always something to talk or write about, when you can’t come up with anything else. I could have, but it just looked so nice when I checked out the webcam this morning. All our snow is gone, except the piles and in shady spots. We had an awful rainstorm, the day before yesterday, with gale force winds and heavy downpours.

What you see here, is the north end of our city. There’s a light blue church in the centre of it [St. Luke’s Anglican], and to the left of it you see a small portion of the mighty Saint John River.

Speaking of webcams, yesterday I found out they’d put up a live one downtown

We used to have one like that in my Swedish hometown too, but they had to take it down. Some people got all worked up and thought it was a ‘threat to their personal integrity’ or whatever.

Threat to personal integrity? Haha… I love webcams. And I have an appreciation for weathers too. Especially when I can observe them from the comfort of my home πŸ˜‰

As an argument, they put forward the people who have a ‘protected identity’ … or perhaps are in the witness protection programme?!

Well, there’s the thing, Mara; the key word in CCTV, is CLOSED Circuit TV… Not broadcast, live to the Internet, for all and sundry to view. Legally speaking, I believe that, in Canada, this is unconstitutional and should be put to a Charter challenge.

The ones we had, back home, were put up by a company … not the city itself. BUT, they were featured on the city’s own web site, for years, until all this hoopla about personal integrity started. How can people go out in public at all … ?! Here, the city has put up a live one too, but it’s lagging all the time and really bad quality.

How great that your town has a live webcam feeding into YouTube. I wonder how that works? You would think it would need to be processed etc in order to display.

I was thinking about that too. It’s an ‘ordinary person’ [not a company] who’s put it up … he’s a photographer. The city itself has one too, but that’s lousy … lagging terribly.

Right at the outset, it says that this camera is Live Streaming.
Can’t be called “an invasion of privacy” because it’s a public street; however one should be able expect some level of filtration and normally these things are fed to the municipality or police, not straight to YouTube. Can’t see how this photographer could simply put up a live feed without first getting clearances.
    Most disturbing…
Just noticed the change in colour here… You’ve changed your format again?

I changed the colours, and removed the background image.

I don’t know anything about these things. Just remembered the ones back in my Swedish hometown — it used to be so nice to go in and have a look there.

Yes, there is much talk about integrity – I think that is mostly stupidity. A webcam can be very useful.

There are webcams everywhere in France. I don’t think an individual can put them up tho and I’m not sure I think they should. It will end up being one of those things about where to draw the line.

I think this guy is not a private person … I think it’s a company of some sort. Really haven’t thought about these things all that much.

We in Canada talk ALOT about the weather because no matter where you live there is ALWAYS something happening somewhere with the weather, hahahaha…..
As for webcams in public places I see both positive & negatives with them.
Did you ever watch the show “Person Of Interest’??? That showed the ‘dark side’ of public webcams.

I DO like Falcon cams mind you! Love to watch the birds raise their young…

In my native Sweden, they do too … A LOT! That’s a really small country, but the subject is … innocuous. I watched it once or twice, but then I lost track of it, somehow.

I watched an Eagle Cam in Iowa, one season … it was wonderful!!! Talk about good parenting! πŸ™‚

LOL maybe we all talk about weather the world over……
I was watching the Elk River Peregrine Falcon cam (Minnesota) for years. I have checked the link & it looks like it is down 😦
I follow the Hamilton, Ontario site but it is just pix & updates; no live streaming like Elk River. I will have to find a new site to watch…..

Decora, Iowa Eagle Cam was live stream, and there was also some kind of chat line, which I never took part in. There was a TV programme about it too. It was next to a big fish plant — so they were really well fed LOL
