It’s funny you should say that about the two options ‘Create Website’ and ‘Create Blog’ presented to you when you first go to WP.com. I noticed the same thing just a day or two ago when I cleared my browser and had to log in again. I even took a screen shot and I was thinking about writing about it. You beat me to it! 🙂

I wondered what the difference was and I followed the two buttons to see where they led. And ‘Create Website’ and ‘Create Blog’ lead down the same rabbit hole. What a way to confuse newcomers…

About being able to comment from mobile or not, see next comment – if I manage to make it from my mobile 🙂

Yes, the same rabbit hole! 🙂 And the domain name shouldn’t have been presented as an option, before you’d signed up for WordPress itself.

Shouldn’t these people be able to see things from an unexperienced user’s point of view, one would think?!

I think you are correct about not being able to comment from within WordPress. What is weirder still I something I got halfway with a couple of weeks ago and then went the whole way with your post just now – and it’s this: I went into your post and published it on my site. I didn’t reblog it and it didn’t say I was reblogging it. It just posted. And as far as I can see I could have edited it as well. Weird.

Cripes! What’s the point of having this self-hosted thing, if people can’t comment from the app?! I can reply to comments from my own app, though.

The other thing you described was the weirdest I’ve heard in quite some time.

Do you remember if you HAVE been able to comment from the app before … so that this [hopefully] is just something temporary?

No, I don’t recall. All I can think is that there is something in the setup for Jetpack where you connect to WP.com. Did you do that? And did you activate ‘comments’ in Jetpack?

Yes, that was the first thing I checked. Replying now from the phone. Will get in touch with JetPack and ask them.

of course … it was a plugin! Should have checked that before anything else. It was something about ‘limited sign-in attempts’ …

I share your frustration re: WordPress, but at a much more basic level. Putting a post on WordPress used to be a straightforward procedure. Now we have the prettier format that makes you hunt for everything. I get my posts up with a lot of trial and error (mostly error) and when I give up on the pretty version, have to go the roundabout way to get back to the old posting style. I am frustrated by all the searching for the simplest buttons that should be moving me along to get an article posted. Is WordPress listening?

‘Frustration’ is the key word here. I’m trying to get used to the new editor, but they keep changing things in there, so there’s no way of getting used to it — I end up going back to the old.

No, they’re not listening. They started a thread for feedback in the support forum. Last time I looked, it was 25 pages long and they hadn’t been in for several months. They should never have let this editor out to the public at this stage. It would have been okay if it had been close to the finished product, but not this.

Great comment thread. I had an email conversation I think, with WP some weeks back. They have no intention of reverting the Admin panel back the what it once was. The stupid NEW look is here to stay, apparently mixed with the old interface. So stupid, no surprise people are angry. It’s nearly enough to drive me away from WP.

I realise that, so that’s why I try to get used to it. But then again, when you know that the old one is available in the background, so to speak … it’s so easy to switch back. Especially when it comes to pictures in posts.

I wouldn’t know where to go, if I were to leave … there isn’t any real good alternative that I know of.

I am with AnnaLi on the format to write our blogs in. The ‘new improved’ way is a royal pain in the neck & backside!!!!! I too go into WP Admin to use the ‘old’ format which is far more logical & easier to use. Makes me think of that old saying: “If it ain’t broke’ don’t fix it!!!”

Yes, I know … on both. I think it’s too late for them to go back, though. I’m trying to really force myself to use the new now, because I know we’ll have to live with it. Arghh

Really?? We will get stuck with that new format that makes NO sense?? I can not navigate it at all….I have tried many many times….it really frustrates me.

You’ll always be able to go to the old, but in the long run, you’ll have to bookmark the wp-admin link [=the old interface].
