I tried the new editor a few times, but found it too annoying, having to find my way back to the old one, in order to do what I am used to. It intrigued me why they’d put out a half-finished product, and on top of that, removed the link [wp-admin] to the old editor for new users. Figured I couldn’t be the only one thinking along these lines, so I found a «feedback thread» in the Support Forum. It was 25 pages, 700+ comments, so I only read a few, as many of them wrote the same thing.
The reason they’ve put it out as it is now, is that they want the users to give feedback so they can improve it.
Here in the old editor, there’s a very easy way of adding a border to your pictures when you want to (like I’ve done here, red, to underscore the border). One user asked when that would be added to the new editor. The answer read: It won’t. They suggested the user signed up for their premium plan so she would be able to do it with HTML/CSS. The user asked if they really meant that she’d have to sign up for $99 per year, and learn HTML/CSS to do something she was used to doing with two clicks. «Well, how often do you really DO that?» they asked. A little strange attitude, perhaps, if you ask me but … you can’t get it all I guess * shrug *.
Either way, I think they have ways to go before this is up to par. They removed the link to the old editor [for new users] in March this year, as they want to encourage bloggers to use the new.
Now … if you feel that you’re getting a little bit annoyed with WordPress, I suggest you go and use Blogger for a while. That will cure you, effectively, and you’ll LOVE WordPress even more when you get back 🙂 . I came across a friendly bunch of Swedes-abroad-bloggers, but they’re all in Blogger. Just the commenting is a downer … no threaded comments, no way of notifying a person that you’ve responded … et cetera.
