WordPress editor/interface … again

I tried the new editor a few times, but found it too annoying, having to find my way back to the old one, in order to do what I am used to. It intrigued me why they’d put out a half-finished product, and on top of that, removed the link [wp-admin] to the old editor for new users. Figured I couldn’t be the only one thinking along these lines, so I found a «feedback thread» in the Support Forum. It was 25 pages, 700+ comments, so I only read a few, as many of them wrote the same thing.

The reason they’ve put it out as it is now, is that they want the users to give feedback so they can improve it.

IMG_2083Here in the old editor, there’s a very easy way of adding a border to your pictures when you want to (like I’ve done here, red, to underscore the border). One user asked when that would be added to the new editor. The answer read: It won’t. They suggested the user signed up for their premium plan so she would be able to do it with HTML/CSS. The user asked if they really meant that she’d have to sign up for $99 per year, and learn HTML/CSS to do something she was used to doing with two clicks. «Well, how often do you really DO that?» they asked. A little strange attitude, perhaps, if you ask me but … you can’t get it all I guess * shrug *.

Either way, I think they have ways to go before this is up to par. They removed the link to the old editor [for new users] in March this year, as they want to encourage bloggers to use the new.

Now … if you feel that you’re getting a little bit annoyed with WordPress, I suggest you go and use Blogger for a while. That will cure you, effectively, and you’ll LOVE WordPress even more when you get back 🙂 . I came across a friendly bunch of Swedes-abroad-bloggers, but they’re all in Blogger. Just the commenting is a downer … no threaded comments, no way of notifying a person that you’ve responded … et cetera.

I hate the stupid changes. That said, I found the admin link at the very bottom of the list in the sidebar. I wondered at the time when they will quietly remove that… Grrr and more grrrr…

I hate it too … with vehemence, but I didn’t want to say that LOL. They just say it’s going to be so streamlined and fast. Nothing is wrong with the old one. I’m sure they will quietly remove the link, but they promised the old editor would remain.

I agree with Dave Bennett, the ‘new’ editor is basically garbage. And it is indeed a ‘half finished’ work. If the dang thing works, why fix it, WordPress? The editor has looked like this for months now, if not a year and it’s long past due to be switched to one design or the other. I still have access to the old editor via a link in the bottom left as Mr. Bennett stated.

I’m not a WP noob by several years. And using blogger will indeed cure your worries incredibly fast! I started on Blogger say ten or more years ago. It doesn’t take long for you to realize that there are far better publishing platforms available, with many more today of course which begs the question – when will Google take that stupid service off the Web… Great thoughts, Rebekah. 👍

Yes, what you said here, John, is basically what they all said in the thread. It must be more than a year since they released the Beep Beep Boop. I just don’t know what they’re thinking.

Blogger made one big, huge, update a number of years ago, and then it stopped. The commenting is their biggest issue, methinks. That part really takes away from the experience. Lots of people still use it, because they don’t know about anything else, so they will have a lot of adjusting to do when they’ll have to move one day.

Call it mean, but I really hope Blogger goes away. Beep beep Boop? What the xoxo were they thinking? We are not children. I despise seeing this.

Odd that WP is about the biggest business and blogging platform around these days yet they can’t repair the UI and kill the Boop. Apparently that Matt fella who owns WP has gone on permanent holiday…

LOL I think it’s gone now, with the latest update, but in that app for Mac, you still can see it go by. I believe all this had something to do with making it look exactly the same, regardless of what device you’re on … that said, they’ve over-thought the whole thing. The old editor didn’t need repair, and the app was pretty good too … one would think they could have just changed the interface colours around a little … so it would have looked the same.

The only thing they argue in that thread, is that it will be so much faster. That doesn’t really matter to me, how fast it is, when I can’t do the basics. Grrr …

I just now sent a four paragraph note to WP.com about this Editor, stating my displeasure with it as a very long-term user. I suppose I will get a very generic response if they do answer which is typical of this company. Seriously, I will move off of WP to SquareSpace or similar if they can’t fix this.

They may reply with some type of auto-responder. They’ve taken away that nifty little chat box that used to pop up. Guess they couldn’t take it.

SquareSpace … isn’t that rather expensive?!

I still have my old blogger page but it really tries my patience. I finally just put a link from there to here because when I commented on someone’s page it has me logged into the old site so instead of going to the source for this site they just clicked on the picture I commented with. I find these days are not like the old ones where people really want to know you except for a few. It’s more like show and tell. Anyway here, as per usual it’s about the almighty dollar. I had a few places I just unsubscribed to because there were so many ads the page jumped for an eternity loading them.

I didn’t know you still had a Blogger page. You wanted your Blogger profile to link to your WordPress blog? It’s so tiresome to comment there … if you want follow-up comments you have to use your Google account, otherwise you won’t get any.

Usually I’m not the one to complain about changes like this, for the simple reason most often they are improvements. When you see the thousands and thousands of angry posts in FB screaming ‘I want the OLD FB back’ … after a week they wouldn’t have a clue what the old looked like. Anyway … that said, in this case I felt I had to voice an opinion because this is stupid and nobody has any idea where it’s going. I think they’ve lost their way themselves. Now they’re trying some type of crowd sourcing, asking us, the users, to pitch in what we want there, but we want all the things we’ve become used to. It’s such a mess! Luckily they’ve promised to keep the old editor in the background.

Thank you, about the background … I liked it myself, when I saw how it came out on a real page 🙂

I hate all the changes in WP. I find it too difficult to even post and forget uploading a photo. Maybe I just do not like change that simply confuses old codgers!

LOL I seriously have NO CLUE what you just posted about. You amaze me with your tech knowledge!
I use PiZap for cropping & prettying up photos. That is just easier for me…
