rearranged work space

I feel silly when I refer to this as my work space. I don’t work! This is pure pleasure, what’s going on here on my computer, in my online life.

Used to have a proper desk, with a sliding shelf for a keyboard. Bought it years ago, while I still had a desktop computer, and it was good. Now I have a MacBook, and had several laptops before it, which meant I couldn’t take advantage of that sliding thing. Secondly, and more importantly; The height of the desk was wrong, not matter how I adjusted the chair. All the time, I was sitting with my shoulders drawn up and tense — the stiffness and pain was exacerbating, something needed to be done. It wasn’t as if I was going to quit my online life, though … far from it.

In the other room, a spare, laptop computer was sitting on top of an old card table. One day when I was sitting there, doing something, it struck me: this is perfect — this is the right height!

So I moved. The desk went into the other room, and the card table here. It’s not pretty, but it works really well. Already, after just a couple of weeks, I’m feeling better. I’m going to buy some green felt and put on it, as a table cloth because the surface is too ugly.

IMG_0053-minNow, all this moving about, meant that McDuff lost his «safe place». As I’ve mentioned before, he’s our indoor barometer … as soon as some low pressure arrives, or thunder is in the offing, he becomes very low and quickly slides in underneath my desk. But now the desk is gone! It’s wide open space underneath here!

McDuff -- a box cat

McDuff — a box cat

Since he likes boxes in general, I thought perhaps that would do. Took a cardboard box from Costco, put one of his pads in it, and for once he accepted something I’d arranged for him! I took this with the iPhone, from straight above.

Not only have I rearrange my work space, I’ve also moved Tassitus to the safe harbour of WordPress dot com. No more self-hosting for me! It’s all over and I say this with a great amount of certainty. The process was a bit complicated. I thought my head was about to explode at times, but it’s done and I feel good about it.

The old boy looks happy. lol He is so cute! I have a desk that is not the right height either. It was my grandfathers so I have been trying to decide if maybe a new chair could be found. I stand up to paint at it because it is so uncomfortable to sit at it.

      He’s in a happy place there 🙂

I’m so glad I finally made this change! Feels so much better — I don’t have any problems anymore! I’d tried two different chairs before, and neither of them could be adjusted to fit the damned desk so … that was a waste too.

A-Ha!! You DID move!! I thought so as I had to ‘re-like- your blogs. I am glad your are ‘back’ so to speak!
And I hear you about table heights vs body height & being comfortable.
I have a cooling fan under laptop & I sit on couch with unit in lap & type away. This laptop does have a battery so once in a while I ‘unplug’ Tessa & go out on patio with her when Siddhartha Henry is in his Condo!
I am glad you are now comfy & the Sir McDuff is also comfy…heaven forbid the feline be disturbed>>>ROFL…..they sure have us trained don’t they Rebby???

Yes, I got so fed up with the whole thing. I’m back! The old blog [colder…] will of course stay, but won’t be updated anymore. This is the one and only now.

With the first laptop I had, I too used to sit on the couch. Then I changed … don’t remember what it was, but it had to do with space for writing [by hand], and again … the back/neck. Things are really good now. They have batteries, but I feel most at ease sitting here. Now … I have the iPad too, so sometimes I sit on the balcony and read.

Oh boy, am I ever trained! Wouldn’t want to take away his safe place for the life of me! 😀

LOL it must be difficult to keep current with multiple blogs. I am glad you are just ‘here’. It is easier to follow!
I have an Obus Forme & a foam pillow wedge to keep my posture in alignment.

LOL cats train us; we just ‘think’ we train them!!! 😉

I tried a pillow while I sat on the couch, but I realize now it was too soft and malleable. I feel good now with this arrangement, except I have nowhere to write … by hand. This time of year, when the sun is in a different angle, it’s getting nice out on the balcony here. I read there at times.

too soft is not good! Mine is a cervical pillow; rather solid form so I put it behind Obus Forme to give me proper comfort.
Space is always such an issue isn’t it? I would love a little desk but there is no such thing, lol…
the Humidity is coming in so we are in for 3-4 humid days….will send that to you when we are finished with it, hahaha!

Muahaha @ the mugginess. I will hear of no such thing. Our lovely fog will roll back in, in a few minutes.

Yeah, it’s really important! My shoulders were so stiff and achey so I couldn’t drag a T-shirt over my head the ordinary way.

UGH it is foul out there today (Sunday) Rebby!
The breeze is hot air so makes it worse. Siddhartha Henry was out for 1/2 hour & came back in.
So I figure we will sit out after 5 pm when it is moderately cooler. Loved the fog photo I saw on your FB page! Awesome as usual my friend!

It’s hot here too, but not overly humid … I compare everything to those first two summers we had here, and in the light of those, this feels ‘good’. We’re getting a visitor in an hour … the son from QC ..

Now we’re getting all that heat and humidity I’ve dreaded. I’m almost in the pillow-screaming state, but not yet 🙂

Had 3 showers>>>just trying to cool body temp down.
Today it is cloudy & a bit cooler…Humidex is still 30 C so doors/windows closed. One fan on.
Sorry you are getting this weather too! 😦

NO A/C?? UGH you are so brave to tough out Summer w/out it!

Our Summers have been fairly similar the past 5 years here. What I did notice this year is without the trees the apartment heats up quicker. I have a blackout drape for Bedroom that works well & will have to invest in a set for Living Room next year.
today is a moderate day & I can actually breathe w/out Asthma attacks & Inhaler!!!

Yeah, arrived around 3PM, and it showed 34ºC when we crossed the bridge. That trip was brutal because his a/c in the car was broken. Good here in the hotel, though … Was going to write something, but I’m so tired so it feels like the floor is swaying 🙂
