change of scenery

Left Härnösand yesterday morning. Took the train to Stockholm which took four hours and fifteen minutes.

For a while I thought I’d been overly optimistic when I planned my trip. Even though I’ve stayed in the same place for almost two weeks, there has been something going on all the time. I felt worn out when I left — as if I never wanted to travel again (!). I’d chosen hotel carefully, the main reason being its location, across the street from the central station. When I’d dragged my heavy suitcases, and my weary self, out of the station, it turned out I couldn’t cross the street because there was Stockholm Marathon going on! I don’t know for how long I stood there [and many others with lots of bagage], before I sneaked over the street. They got very angry when I did it … I got really barked at!

Once I was ‘installed’ in my room, I took a quick shower and then, hit the streets. Then everything changed — I felt really happy I’d opted for this short stay in Stockholm. The evening was wonderful, people everywhere … the city was so full of life! Didn’t bring my real camera — only the phone — but today I’ll go out and take pictures.

What a lousy deal to see the street blocked after such careful planning. Good to cross the street anyhow, otherwise you might still have been there now…. Nice photos, your phone makes good shots, so never apologise for that.

LOVE your photos, especially the one with the three-master! If I didn’t already know it was a photograph, I’d swear that you couldn’t tell what century you were actually looking at: )
Glad to hear it was worth it! Wonderful architecture!!

Why do they always have to run around in the cities in these marathons? Why can’t they just run on the countryside where they don’t bother (that many) people?

I am happy too that you decided to stay in Stockholm a few days so we got the chance to finally meet up!!

I had a wonderful day, something to save in my memory book! It was fun going out as a “tourist” taking pictures LOL Although coming home and looking at the photos on the computer made me very disappointed on some of my photos… Guess I need to practice more!!

I think your phone takes GREAT photos and also you are a great photographer!

Thanks again my friend for a wonderful day! 🙂 I think I will sleep like a baby tonight after all that walking! Enjoy your last day in Sweden before you head home again!

The phone takes good photos Rebekah but I know what you mean about having a ‘real’ camera!
Shame about the marathon being on just as you arrived with all your luggage; hope it didn’t mar your stay too much.
