full steam ahead

With the life we normally lead, Gerry and I, it feels almost hectic during these trips. So many people to see, so much chatting, so much information … My best friend, with whom I’m staying now, has an endless source of energy! Not that nervous type of energy, but things just happen all the time, without me even noticing … from the moment she gets up. She’s been taking care of all the apples from the trees in the garden, cooking apple sauce, making pies — all this just somehow happening swiftly while talking about something else, and all of a sudden the counters are clear and shiny again!

However, the other day we decided to go to some waterfalls, 30 kilometres inland from here. I was there last year too, but Lena hadn’t been there for quite some time, and especially not since she bought the DSLR camera. We didn’t bring any tripod. Here used to be an old mill or some such, a few old buildings are still there. It’s like a park, where they have ponies for kids to ride.

These falls are really impressive in the early Spring, but after this dry summer, there was little water. Still — a waterfall is never wrong πŸ™‚

Later that day, after supper, we felt a little stuffed and decided to take a walk. We moseyed around all kinds of little streets and just reminiscedΒ old times, eventually we ended up outside the library and the adjacent city park. By then it was dark — pitch black, and we still didn’t have tripods. That was a bit unfortunate … we could have gotten some awesome shots of the Cathedral, all lit up, but there’s still time.

  1. I wish I had that kind of energy!!

Just love all the photos!! And wow!! I was almost sure that you had a tripod when you took photos of the waterfalls!!

That is one thing I want to learn, how to take a photo with the water looking so soft and flowing!

Love the photos from the park, and they are great, even without the tripod!! πŸ™‚

Will wait for that photo of the lit up cathedral!

    1. Thank you for your kind words about my photos. It sure feels rewarding, when you get that silky effect. That was my main reason for taking up photography LOL.
Yes, we must make a point of going out one night and shoot the Cathedral. The end of my stay is drawing nigh..

      1. You’re very welcome! Just being honest! πŸ˜€

Yeah I have ALWAYS wanted to take picture of waterfalls myself AND fireworks!

Now there are not many waterfalls around here lol. So I haven’t been able to practice…

And you already know how all my tries of taking fireworks have failed. BUT I hope now that I finally have bought that tripod that I will have a better chance to get some more decent photos this coming New Year!

Yes, time sure flies by fast!! That is for sure…

  2. Lovely photos Rebekah, I especially like the waterfalls, they never disappoint, do they? Hope you get the tripod and get some pics of the cathedral all lit up.

  3. What wonderful pictures- why go to Africa to find waterfalls when they are out there almost on the other side of the street ( almost lol). Its beautiful. I love these red wooden houses you have over there.

  4. Definitely hard to go wrong with waterfalls πŸ™‚ I would’ve never guessed there wasn’t a tripod involved if you hadn’t said so – beautiful photos!
I have friends who are like that – in perpetual motion without seeming to be all that busy. It’s something I aspire to, but not sure it’s in me. But they sure are interesting people to know πŸ™‚

  5. Hello Rebby: I am so happy you are having a lovely time in your homeland. Such a beautiful country!! That waterfall is lovely as are the buildings & surrounding area.
I hope you DO get to the Cathedral before your visit is over….
    Have a wonderful time!
