balance

Ever since I moved back to WordPress.com in the beginning of this year, I’ve been a little intrigued … wondering if my fellow bloggers aren’t blogging as much as they used to. Nothing has changed, my list is still the same, but it dawned on me yesterday, what is different: It’s me! I go in and check the Reader at least twice a day now. Don’t think I fully appreciated the advantages of the WordPress Reader before, and I had my subscriptions set to email. They clogged up my inbox as I always strive for ‘inbox zero’ ๐Ÿ™‚

Must be my mindset that has changed — I used to see that orange box, telling me ยซ50 new postsยป and I felt overwhelmed. Now I see five, at the most, and I look forward to reading them. I’ve found a nice balance in my blogging life.

Weather-wise, it’s a miserable Sunday morning! This winter is like no other! As usual I woke up at 3 o’clock, went out to the kitchen to have a drink of water, and it was raining like mad. Now I’m up for real, all is foggy and damp. This can’t be good for the pond hockey tournament going on out on Lily Lake.

Yesterday, I saw a Gadwall in Marsh Creek. It was a female, and I had to look it up when I got back home, because I wasn’t sure it was a Gadwall. It was. Don’t know if it’s an early arrival or if she’s spent the Winter here. There are oodles of Gadwalls there in the summertime. Either way, she looks like a warm and gentle duck, don’t you think?!

It’s still early, just finished my second mug of morning coffee, and this day is still like a blank sheet of paper … waiting to be filled with something. I don’t know what, yet…

  1. The weather is so changeable. I hope the tournament can go on. I seem to be off blogging now for a while but could still get back to it.

    1. Hello Marian! Marvellous to see you! ๐Ÿ™‚
You know … when I think of blogging buddies that have disappeared, it’s always YOU who comes to mind. I so used to enjoy your posts back in Y360ยบ!

  2. Yes, I notice a lot have disappeared, but some come back, so it’s always worth keeping them on your list/blogroll/reader/emails/whatever you choose. I’m systematically going through ones on my reader with whom I have no interaction. Not all of them, some I just like to read, but the ones I comment on that neither reply nor visit mine? I figure I’ve got better things to do in life than read their blogs. I like the blogs that post maybe two or three times a week, but when there is a dearth of interesting reading, I’m occasionally thankful for the daily posters too.

Sunny here, already afternoon. Breadmaking and late lunch on the agenda now, plus paperwork (yawn – I keep putting it off).

    1. Hi there, in Gib! ๐Ÿ™‚
Haven’t been through my list in ages, no changes there, except two additions during the ‘Zero to Hero’ thing. I do remember, about a year ago, I kept following one who I really enjoyed reading. She always replied to comments, so there was a nice interaction that way, but not ONCE came by my page … not even a simple ยซlikeยป. Guess I had a bad day and got peed off, so I dumped her, and now I can’t even remember the name LOL

Breadmaking, huh?! Perhaps I could make little cookies today. I have the necessary ingredients, but I feel like you, about the paperwork.

      1. I haven’t been through my list as such, I’ve just deleted some that I was following to no purpose.

I don’t think that was a bad day at all. Yes, there are ones that reply to your comments, and never? never? return the courtesy. It’s not that difficult, which reminds me, I owe someone a comment!

I’ve already sautรฉed the onion, so now I’ve got the messy bit to do. I do like my own bread though. Time consuming, messy, but cheaper and tastes better. Plus it lasts for three or four days, so not that much of an onerous task. I’m still putting off the paperwork, although I have started by looking up some computer files that are relevant zzzz

  3. You’re about the duck. She has a sweet look in her eye. I always enjoy your descriptions of the weather where you are. I feel for a moment some “weather” through you – a momentary glimpse of something other than the dryness of Southern CA

    1. Yeah, the weather … at least it’s changeable. I couldn’t even imagine living in your type of climate … but it sure would be nice to visit California some time.
On Friday, we had the most glorious winter’s day you could ever imagine … just the way one would wish Winter was like all the time! Sun, a few, puffy clouds … five degrees below freezing, glistening snow … and now this!

  4. Hi Rebby we are sending you more snow ๐Ÿ˜‰
It stopped briefly here for the morning but is snowing again….
    This is one intense Winter!
Love the Gadwell…what a gorgeous duck. I have never heard of this type..so I just learned something new today!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Love from snowy cold Ontario, Sherri-Ellen & Nylablue (*purrz to McDuff frum me)

    1. Judging from your pictures, Sherriellen, it’s getting to be like we had it in QC -07/08. We have no snow now. There’s another system on its way up the coast, but we’re supposed to get rain from that. McDuff is resting nicely after another shrimp dinner ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Five more hours spent shovelling this morning – it’s gotten to be a full time job this year – but this time it was over 4″ of HEAVY, wet, sticky crud; not the 2′ of lovely, fluffy white powder like last weekend): Was thinking of you enjoying your apartment views again this a.m.; ). This winter is out of control…

    1. Wow, you’re getting a heck of a lot of exercise … FIVE hours!!! The wet kind is the worst. It’s gone here now. The whole day was gray and overcast but no more rain for now..

  6. A few days ago it was COLD and today it’s been raining! Still got a lot of snow though…

I am getting back into blogging and I truly enjoy it again! ๐Ÿ˜€ So that is good! My posts are maybe not that interesting for anyone else to read, but I write for myself anyway so lol ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love all them photos and yes that sure look like a warm and gentle duck!!

    1. Oh, I enjoy reading your posts, Mona, and it’s so good to see you writing again. Even if we just write about day-to-day life, it’s nice … like chatting with a good friend on the phone.

I looked up that Gadwall in my Swedish/English online dicitonary [http://tyda.se], and found out it was ยซsnatterandยป! I have heard the word, but all this bird/duck interest came along with the camera. When I lived there I couldn’t tell one duck from another, except the Mallard, of course … they’re so easy!

      1. Aww thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ I am glad you enjoy my posts!! Yeah you are right! It is like chatting with a friend! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I actually think I have heard Snatterand too sometime! But I am not at all good about birdnames!

  7. The reader and I don’t do well. Email is better. The rain on the pond should freeze and add strength if it has time to get solid.

    1. I do really well with the reader NOW, but not before! Dunno why … force of habit, perhaps.

Drove by there today, when it was over and the ice was full of water. Don’t know how they did the finals…

  8. I blogged ,first time today since 2009. I have a pretty boring life, I guess. I read that 2009 blog. It was like a stranger wrote it.

  9. What a beautiful bird. I am not sure that I have seen one of them ever. We have a funny winter too. 2 weeks where it has been rather cold and some days with heavy wind, snow and snow drifting. And now its mild again ( as it has been most of this winter) – and we have seen the sun, it has been almost absent in January, we are all down in energy because of lack of light.

    1. Snatterand pรฅ svenska! ๐Ÿ™‚
We’re supposed to get some storm on Wednesday, but I doubt that will mount to much here — we’ll probably get it as rain.

      1. Knarand in Danish. Its unusual ? – you use to have lots of snow this time of the year.

  10. McDuff must be over the moon with shrimp for 2 days ๐Ÿ˜‰
I am glad there is no snow…I hope the rain passes quickly…we have more snow on the way…it never ends, hahaha!!!

  11. Yes, a lot of my blogging buddies are very quiet lately but I’m sure they will bounce back again like we all do!
The weather is so changeable all over the world; over here in Oz we are suffering extreme temperatures and doing all we can to keep cool. We are heading off to the pool shortly to get our fix!
Hope the tournament is still able to go ahead.

    1. The tournament went unexpectedly well, I read in the paper.

Yeah, it comes and goes in cycles … the blogging. But I feel it’s so much more rewarding, compared to FB…

And yes, swimming is the only thing that really helps! …and a/c ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Less is more! I found that out. Now I am following five…and not blogging! You, of course, I will always follow… For your friendship, your beautiful photos.

    1. Awww … thank you, Linda for your kind words! I have thirty, but not many show up in the reader. I’m really careful about adding people — I’m wiser now, then when I first started. Then I got overly enthusiastic and had over a hundred … that didn’t work! I want to leave comments that are meaningful, and that would have turned into a full-time job! LOL

  13. Wow McDuff was great with Percy…Nylablue growls at all other cats…the house cat Rex loves her to pieces & will sit on top pf her carrier & she growls & swears & he purrs…..they crack me up!

    1. LOL I expected at least some hissing, but not. He has seen Percy before, but not this up close and personal.

The little dog was a real barker, and it was like the cage almost lifted from the floor ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. McDuff is a gentle cat…..and well behaved unlike the *drama queen* here….
I can imagine the carrier lifting off the floor when the dog went close to McDuff tho..
I always put NB’s carrier ont he bench so she is eye level with larger dogs & the smaller ones she can look down on….
    So I am left standing…lol….

  15. LOL I can imagine McDuff’s heart pitterpattering away!!!
Nylablue’s is rarely over 140; she no longer gets worked up…I guess that is one thing about weekly visits….
