Not given up

Even though posts have been few and far between, I’ll try and keep this blog up. I know the blogging spirit will be back some time.

Today, WordPress announced their new, default theme, Twenty Twelve. I wanted to try it, so I applied it. That’s alright, but what wasn’t alright was my previous theme, Origin! There, they had some kind of setting so that you had to make at least one image a ‘featured image’, otherwise it wouldn’t appear on the first page. I’d had that theme for quite some time so numerous posts have ‘featured images’…perhaps a hundred or more. It looks stupid with this, new theme, and probably most others too and the thing is; there’s no way of changing that in one fell swoop …. you have to do it one post at the time. I’ve done a few.

It’s Tuesday night now, and on Thursday I’ll be en route to Stanfield Airport in Halifax, NS. Will probably post photos to my travel blog Flamma Stolt, as I did last year.

There’s a Snowy Egret in Marsh Creek, and yesterday I managed to get some decent pictures of it. The bird is so white, so the pictures often get overexposed if one isn’t careful.

We keep going to this stinky place, even though most of the time there are just the same ducks there. It’s well worth going there, because every now and then something different shows up! What really stands out in my mind is of course the time I saw a Bald Eagle there, but I’ve also seen Wood Duck and others there … like now, this beautiful, white bird!

This will be my last post here in quite some time.

  1. We both kind of feel the same. It had been a long time since I blogged. I am going to try to more often, If only a photo or two.

    1. Actually, I’m under the impression that we’re not alone … there are several missing in my ‘circle’, but on the other hand … I haven’t made the rounds the way I used to either..

  2. I’ve been waiting for 2012 – it’s only 2/3 of the way through the year before it comes out. Might as well be called 2013.

Trouble is I quite like 2011 (and 2010), not sure about a change. I wonder if there is a seamless change from 2011 to 2012? Nah, this is wordpress, most unlikely.

Have a great trip and looking forward to checking out the travel blog when you post some pix up there 🙂

    1. I have yet to find out the differences between those themes. One, and that is one that I really like, is that they’ve removed the black navigation bar, but now they’ve moved it on top of the header instead. I haven’t really explored it yet, because I was so annoyed by those ‘featured images’ I had..

There will probably be lots of writings and photos in Flamma Stolt 🙂

  3. I missed reading your posts.

I don’t know whether this is exactly an insight, but one thing I have noticed with my own writing is that I tend to set the bar higher as time goes on, or I get this totally stupid feeling that I ‘must’ write about ‘x’ and not write about ‘y’ because ‘x’ is what my blog is about – and all of that that inhibits writing.

    1. Thanks, David … I think that’s exactly it. As time goes by, I feel that my posts has to be more ‘polished’, otherwise people will think I’m silly. What I really need is to get over myself, because it really doesn’t matter what all these people think [if anything]. Most of all it’s the hot, humid weather that has inhibited my writing. As my brain was slowly melting … I couldn’t think. This morning, the air is fresh and crisp … it’s wonderful!

    2. Excuse my butting in —
but that is EXACTLY what I was just thinking about my blog. It has to have a focus, it has to have an “X” — and it doesn’t, and I don’t want one, and Ii was kind of despairing.
But I WANT to write about “X” and “Y” and all 26 letters of the alphabet!

  4. Your photos have been great, and I enjoyed teasing you up at the garden (city worker). I hope you will be back.

  5. Have a wonderful time while you’re away, I look forward to your travel blog. I’ll add it to my reader.
Hope you manage to escape the humidity.

    1. Vicky,
We got a little thunder storm last night, and that seemed to take all humidity with it, as it left. Woke up this morning, to a glorious day where the air is fresh and crisp! It’s like a whole new life..

  6. Encouraging (in a depressing way) that other bloggers are also finding August the doldrums for any kind of inspiration or enthusiasm.
Let’s not get depressed! Or let’s hold hands together and all be depressed together! And take ourselves maybe a little holiday, and come back refreshed in September.
Rebekah, bon voyage, wonderful adventures in Sweden, see you upon return!

  7. Hello there,
I came across a review of your new theme, 2012. There was a mention of your web site, so I thought I’d visit. I know what you’re talking about when it comes to blogging. You should see my site’s archive.
If I’m getting the drift of things, August is considered a tough month. It can be challenging, due to the heat. Yet, I keep having to press into God for help; even though my body may not be into it. If you like some encouraging stories; please come and visit.

  8. Somehow I missed this post and wondered when I saw the photos on FB when you left for your homeland? were these last years photos? were you traveling again? and what a wonderful thing. I will have to go to the travel blog and try to catch up.
Blogging has taken a back seat in my life. I don’t know what, if anything, I want to write about.

  9. Just because you have a blog that you’ve been writing in often/regularly doesn’t mean that you’re obliged to post often.
It’s your blog and you’re free to do whatever you please with it.

Apropos changing themes: I had the same problem when I changed my theme. Suddenly I had a lot of ‘featured images’ that looked absolutely ridiculous in the new theme…
