Yesterday I happened to notice a surprising spike in the little site-views graph in the bar here in WordPress. It looked intriguing, as I had not noticed more comments than usual or so. Went in to the statistics page to see what possibly could have caused this unexpected wave of visitors to my unassuming, little blog. Soon enough I found out … something that I had no idea of:
They released two, new themes the other day, and I decided to try out one of them [Oxygen]. Turns out, when you apply a theme directly from their themes showcase page, your blog gets listed/featured there in the right column. Since this was a brand new theme, many people checked it out and hence clicked on my blog. I was the only one listed, to boot, so I got a tremendous amount of clicks. Now I’m back with my old theme Ari, as I found the main column too narrow for my taste and there was no way of disabling the right widget area.
While on the WordPress-subject … they seemed to have forgotten to post the weekly photo challenge yesterday. We were many who waited, several came up with their own challenges. I had a photo-walk planned for this morning, so I thought I’d just post some random pictures from that instead. They’re all from Saint John’s Old North End — an area that could have been incredibly picturesque, had it not been so neglected and poverty stricken. There are so many boarded-up buildings, so you hardly notice the few nice ones. Many of these wooden buildings are so close to one another, as you can see in the last picture — the thought of a fire on a windy day makes you shudder.
In any event, it was a nice morning and we walked for more than two hours. Very refreshing 🙂
