high cuteness factor

We’re supposed to get rainy weather for many days now, so today we went out for a little spin before it all started. It was high tide and it was still coming in, so there were many harbour seals sliding by in the Falls. One of them was huge and looked different from the usual kind. He looked happy, though.

We went from there, down to another place, near the Harbour Bridge, where the water is wide open.

The gulls — who are thieves, apparently — got a hold of something [bloody] that a seal had in its mouth. Then all the other gulls tried to take it away from the first one, and during that chaos, he dropped it — the seal popped up and grabbed it back! It looked too funny and I wished I could have filmed it, but I wasn’t prepared.

As I stood there, watching, I heard even more excited gulls, screaming up in the sky. Looked up, and saw they were chasing a Bald Eagle [immature]. If I were an eagle, I’d be so mad and annoyed! Every time you go out for a nice tour, there are either gulls or crows, irking you! There you are, just soaring, minding your own business, and they’re trying to pick your tail feathers!

…and now for the cuteness Β factor! The rain just started spitting, I was about to turn around and go back to the car, when these two, adorable faces were looking up at me!

It was a good day!

Here in Saint John, they’re referred to as Β«Sea DogsΒ». Even our hockey team is named “Saint John Sea Dogs” πŸ™‚

      Hi Mags,
Yes, it was good … I actually laughed when the seal head popped up and grabbed whatever it was πŸ™‚

You do have a couple of cute shots here. Though not really cute (more regal, I’d say), I love the shot of the eagle soaring over the water. He is so graceful in his flight. πŸ™‚

Thanks, Orples … Yes, he’s regal looking! With regards to the cuteness, I was merely referring to the two seals at the bottom..

Yeah, everyone here refers to them as sea dogs πŸ™‚ and it’s going really good for the hockey team Β«Saint John Sea DogsΒ» too!

Great shots Rebekah, and it was funny reading how the gulls pinched food from the seal, and in the squabbling between themselves, they dropped it and the seal got it back! πŸ™‚
Those two at the bottom of your post definitely have the cuteness factor!

      Hello Barb,
Yes, the gulls often seem to steal fish, caught by others, which made it even funnier — it put a smile on my face.
