photo walk

The weather was brilliant today. I felt compelled to get out in the sunshine … get some fresh air, and I wanted to take some pictures.

There are days when I come back with close to a hundred pictures in the camera — when I just see stuff everywhere, and keep on snapping. Not so today! Perhaps I had my expectations set too high. Today, I think I had twenty pictures and perhaps one that I was remotely happy with.

Barker Street

After this non-winter, and before the green foliage returns it’s like even the camera itself is just screaming for some colour! We still have the grayish-brown that we’ve had all Winter.

Each time we drive by the Lutheran Church on Second Street, I look at the railing at the stairs, thinking I should take a picture of it some time. Today I did, and I didn’t get it the way I wanted it at all. Finally, I felt so stupid — this is a small street, with big apartment buildings all around. It was as if they were all looking at me, even though I’m sure they couldn’t care less.

There’s more to this idea than what you see in this picture. The entrance consists of three rows of these forged iron railings, here you see one yellow … curlicue [or whatever I should call it], next row has a green, and the third a red one. If you’re into taking pictures, I’m sure you understand my ‘hang-up’ about this … how you can get an idea in your head, but really can’t get it right in the viewfinder. I’ll keep on trying — perhaps when the sun is in a different angle will also help.

As I’m typing this, I’m watching CNN in the corner of my eye and the tornado watch. A huge one is right now in Salina, KS and my thoughts and prayers go out to the people there, my friend Julie-Ann, who lives very near Salina! To me, it’s all so unimaginable!

Here, at least a tiny burst of colour! These guys had spread from a garden, out on the street.

Those of you, who have followed this blog since the ‘Post a Day challenge’ started in January 2011, may remember that the title of it used to be COLDERWEATHER. I didn’t get it as a user-ID here in WP, but now it’s back … with its own domain even. When you look in the address field up above, you’ll see http://colderweather.net. I’ve had that registered for some time, but had it on Blogger and did nothing with it. Last night I decided it needed to come to life and moved it over here, where I actually write.

Yes, I’m pleased … always felt that that was MY blog, somehow. Childish?! Yes, but so what πŸ™‚

    Hi,
I’m glad you were able to get your title back, that is just fantastic. πŸ˜€
How the gold on that rail stands out against the black, it really brightens up the stairs, looks great.

    Footnote:
I was wondering if I need to change my RSS feed or the link in my blogroll?

I’m not sure how that works, about the RSS, but I don’t think you’d have to change anything. This is just a re-direct… Β«underneathΒ», it’s still the same URL..

Well … πŸ™‚ the thing was; I really wanted the .COM — that’s the one that got taken. Just some silly hang-up I had — I’m perfectly happy with this now..

      Thank you, Karina!

I have similar hang-ups when I am out photographing, I always have this feeling that EVERYONE around me is watching and I freak out and move on; dealing with this is a major work in progress πŸ™‚

I really should deal with it too. It’s okay when I’m not alone! Then it doesn’t matter at all?! In my mind, I know nobody cares, but that doesn’t help.

Thank you, by the way, for stopping by and commenting! Much appreciated!

Glad you are back to using Colderweather – it’s more you – you go together!
I see what you mean about the railings, the gold stands out against the black, but if you hadn’t mention there was a green one, I wouldn’t have seen it. It will be hard getting the right angle to show the red one as well.

That’s exactly how I felt too … I wanted it back all the time.

In order to get the red one in, the picture will be too busy… we’ll see about that πŸ˜€

so glad you got your name! even with .net, it’s still you!
Funny, I did a similar thing yesterday but only walked the property with camera in hand and was planning to post a “photo walk” today. Must be something in the Maritime air that we are thinking alike.
