unusually warm

Incredibly warm weather … today I had to remind myself many times that it’s actually just the 21st of March!

Copied this little image from our weather site right now!

We went out around noon, I’d put on an ordinary Β coat, but that was way too hot. I hear in the news now that temperature records were broken all over the province.

I had an appointment downtown at 1:30PM so we went down to the Reversing Falls just
to kill time and enjoy the warmth and the sunshine. The tide was rolling in, and with it, many seals. They are harbour seals Β — today they were quite numerous, and seemed to be enjoying themselves just as much as we were.

For a few days now, I’ve been looking for groundhogs. With this warm weather and the fact that we’ve had hardly any snow, I figured they’d be out and today I was rewarded! This little darlin’ was peeking out of her hole by the Falls.

It just so happened that I had a few peanuts in my pocket.

Went downtown for my appointment. It was at the Immigrations office — my new Permanent Resident card had arrived, and in order to obtain it, there was a little interview involved. I started the renewal process back in last Fall, luckily … wasn’t aware of how long time it would take, and my old card would expire in April. The office is located in a big federal building, where I’d never been before. Found the immigrations office easily enough, there was a waiting area, and only one person in there. I hardly know any people at all here in Saint John, but wouldn’t you know! The person in there was one of the few! I knew him from the photo group and I’d heard before that he’s originally American. Later, another guy from the States arrived, and also a girl from Holland.

The interview went swimmingly and I now have my card for five more years. This is the same thing as a ‘Green Card’ in the US.

This little guy was just singing his heart out, I liked how the picture came out so I wanted to post it here.

    1. Thank you! This theme is totally awesome — it’s the nicest they’ve come out with so far! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Joss! This is a theme I really, really like! This was a great day, and it was fun to meet that guy too! I, who hardly know any people here πŸ™‚

  1. Hi,
Isn’t it strange, we have had the opposite here where I live. For the past 2 summers it had been a lot cooler than normal. πŸ™‚

How wonderful to see so many animals while you were out and about, and congrats on getting your new card, at least you don’t have to worry about it for 5 years. Can you eventually not worry about doing this at all?

What a gorgeous little bird, so sweet. A lot of these little birds have a beautiful voice, you could listen to them for ages, if only they would stay in the same place that long. πŸ˜€

    1. If I were to become a Canadian citizen, I wouldn’t have to worry …. but I doubt I’ll do that..

  2. The critter’s must be coming out everywhere singing their songs of spring’s arrival. The birds have been happily chirping for a couple of weeks here. And of course, the squirrels have been out and about all winter, but even they appear to be more lively lately. Congrats on the renewal of your Permanent Resident Card, too. I know it is a relief to have that taken care of. Happy Spring! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Orples! Today, I heard chirping all around, in every bush..it was incredible, with this hot weather up there in March! Made me think of the song ‘The Rose’..

  3. Glad you got your card. I would have been a nervous wreck!!

Great bird photo. I can almost hear him!

We have now had 3 days of rain. It is awesome. And much much cooler. normal for now. Happy days!

    1. Thank you, it feels good. I was actually pretty cool about it … didn’t think they’d come and grab me and throw me out … but you never know. This warm day felt awesome, but it also gave a hint of what’s to come … summer hell.

  4. That bird is soooo adorable! πŸ™‚ Nice and warm down here in Southern Maine, too. The windows were ALL open today, and even after 9 p.m. it was still 72 degrees F in the house!!

    1. Same here! It’s always very hot in this building — all year round. Just took a rather cool shower. On Friday we’ll get flurries LOL

  5. Congratulations on your 5 year Resident Card. It seems strange that you have to get this since you are married to a Canadian. I think here in the U.S. when you marry a citizen you then do not have to have a Green Card. I could be wrong.
The critters are all so cute.

    1. Thank you, Linda … I don’t know how that works here either — if it would make a difference if we were married ‘for real’. We’re just common-law…
Either way, it wasn’t a big deal. Next time, I’ll make sure to start the process earlier so I won’t have to worry..
