surprise

…but not in a very positive way: Saturday, which was St. Patrick’s Day, we went downtown around noon. The city seemed …silent — almost sleepy. We parked the car and walked in to Market Square. That’s one of the two shopping centres in the downtown area, and where most shows and performances take place. There was nothing … no trace of anything either. So we sat down there for a while, Gerry decided to go up to the library and check some stuff, I moseyed around with my camera for a while.

Gerry found out, in the library, that the St. Patrick’s celebrations had taken place last weekend?! I will never understand why.

This wasn’t all bad, though. I finally got around to shooting two things that I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time. Most of the times when I walk through Market Square, I’m on my way to the library and certainly not carrying the big camera, but now I did.

This is a piece of art called Sea Forms. I’ve liked it since I first laid eyes on it:

This one is kind of funny and sometimes confusing, when there are lots of people [real people] in there … they look almost real. Usually, when I go there, it’s quite crowded, but this time I could get a clear shot of it…

After that, we just drove around a little … saw three young eagles playing in the sky … then we went to AJ’s for supper! That was really scrumptious and our St. Patrick’s Day wasn’t wasted at all!

  1. Hi,
How unusual to celebrate St. Pat’s Day a week early, very strange, and obviously nothing else was happening, so I wonder why? I assume it will always be a mystery. 🙂
I love that piece of art, that is really nice, I love the shape and the way they have done the flowers, I can see that hanging on my verandah wall. 😀

    1. I guess we’ll never know what the reasons behind that were… very, very odd — especially since St. Pat’s fell on a Saturday.

Each little petal is made in the shape of a sea shell…

  2. Love the art!!!

I never understand why something is celebrated on a different day than what it should be. But sounds like a great day anyway!

    1. me either … especially not when the actual day falls on a Saturday or Sunday…

I really like the Sea Forms too

  3. That is weird, that they celebrated it a week early. I hate malls but I have to say this one looks a bit intriguing. Is this the same mall that has that lovely fountain you’ve taken pictures of?

    1. This is not your regular type of mall. It doesn’t feel like a mall. Yes, it’s the same as with the fountain. It’s a rather small, two-storey place …the museum and the library is also within Market Square. Then there’s a pedway over a street, across to the ‘real’ mall; Brunswick Square. That’s more traditional …

    1. CB,
I don’t know what happened with them. St. Patrick’s is a really big deal here so …
Yes, it turned out to be a very good day, in spite of this.

  4. Those people are wild! I had such a good time clicking around the sculpture and looking at the detail enlargements —-
P.S. Like your new About and your stylized portrait, The Author as Cat!

    1. LOL yeah, they are! It’s always with a funny feeling I walk by them. They have more of these in two other places, but outdoors. Haven’t shot them yet.

When I was checking out the features of this new theme [that I really love], I saw a guy who had made a ‘mini profile’ like that, so I decided to adopt the idea. 🙂
